The Fast and the Furious.
Well, this one went a bit mad.
At Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams held their auction on the Friday. Surrounding by a plethora of elegance and exotic cars, the Vielside Mazda RX-7 from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift stood out amongst the crowd. The car featured in the film and is only 1 of 2 surviving. The car itself was used for static shots in the film, rather than the drift scenes, so it’s still in good condition.
For the pre-sale listing, Bonhams assigned me to capture the car in all its glory. That also meant I had to find somewhere suitable and arrange for the cars to be delivered to the location.
Waking up on the Saturday morning after the sale, it had clearly caused a bit of a sensation in the motoring press, as it was estimated between £250,000 - £350,000. It sold for £911,000. Three bidders kept pushing up the numbers until eventually, one was successful.
